SIS30313- Certificate III in Fitness: Gym Instruction

This qualification will suit anyone wishing to pursue a career as a gym/fitness instructor and also is the pre-requisite for becoming a personal trainer.
Fitness instructors may be involved in the assessment, training and supervision of a variety of people in health and fitness centres, gyms, sports centres and community organisations. You will be trained in fitness specific tasks to instruct individuals and groups of clients in specified work environments and can work under the guidance of a higher qualified professional.

As a fitness instructor your roles are:

  • Conducting an initial client induction including basic screening, fitness appraisal, program development and exercise instruction;
  • Designing individualised training programs within the context of a long term plan;
  • Critiquing technique and applying a variety of appropriate instructional strategies in a range of exercise modalities; and
  • Regularly appraising client's fitness levels and modify their program accordingly.

Course details

This SIS30313- Certificate III in Fitness is an entry-level fitness instructor course, completed prior to going into the SIS40210- Certificate IV course. The course is divided into 9 modules covering topics on the fitness industry, safety in the gym, learning about the human body during exercise, screening clients for health assessments, healthy eating and specialises in learning how to plan and deliver gym programs. You will have 6 months to complete this qualification.

Course entry requirements

This SIS30313- Certificate III in Fitness is an entry-level course, completed prior to going into the SIS40210- Certificate IV course. There are no other academic entry requirements for this qualification.
