A Group Fitness Instructor is someone who teaches fitness to a group of people, typically in a class-type situation, and many Group Fitness Instructors (also sometimes called ‘Group Exercise Instructors’) started out as class enthusiasts – just like you!

There are two steps to become a qualified Group Fitness Instructor.

STEP 1  You need to successfully complete Certificate III in Fitness (SIS03015)

STEP 2 You need to successfully complete this group fitness specialisation course before you want to get in the area you wish to teach. If your dream is to teach fitness formats such as aerobics, circuit, step, boxing, gym training or bootcamp, then the Group Fitness specialisation is the course you’ll need to complete. This standalone,  specialisation  can be completed in up to three months and will enable you to work and be insured as a Group Fitness Instructor.

Once you are a qualified Group Fitness Instructor, you may like to expand your teaching repertoire (and income-earning capacity) to teach other classes. This could include:

CHRIS HUTTON

Chris Hutton completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) at the University of Newcastle and while completing those studies he established his fitness profession. Eighteen years later Chris is still teaching Group Fitness classes, including BODYPUMP® and CXWORX®. For most of those years he’s also been working as a Personal Trainer. Based in Sydney, Chris is the Head Program Coach for Les Mills' BODYSTEP® in Asia Pacific, where he is responsible for developing the Australian Trainer and Presenter team for the program. Chris is also an Advanced Instructor Module Trainer for BODYATTACK® BODYBALANCE®. You can also see Chris in several internationally released Les Mills masterclass DVDs.
