If you’d like to inspire a new generation of younger clients to be physically active and optimize their fundamental movement skills then the ‘Developing Fit Futures: Exercise for Children and Adolescents’ course is for you. From this highly informative certification you’ll learn:

  • Guidelines for running physical activity programs for young people in fitness and leisure centres
  • Duty of care and considerations when working with children
  • Stages of growth and development
  • Fundamental movement skills
  • Major types of injuries that are commonly associated with different stages of development
  • Assessing client fitness levels
  • Age specific exercise prescription for children and adolescents
  • Teaching tips and techniques for fitness professionals working with children
  • Nutrition for strength training.

If you’d like to work with kids to help them develop, establish and maintain healthy nutrition habits, then the course ‘Calories, Cookies and Carrot: Nutrition for Kids’ will set you up with the skills and certification you need. From this certification you’ll learn strategies to tackle common areas of paediatric nutrition such as: 

  • The importance of nutrition in the growth and development of children.
  • Nutritional needs from infancy to late childhood.
  • Dealing with food refusal and how to overcome the issue.
  • How to calculate BMI and interpret values in children.
  • Managing exercise and rehydration.
  • Identifying when children need to be referred to specialised practitioners.
  • Causes, physical and psychological implication of childhood obesity.

If you have a desire to work with adolescents, older adults or athletes then the course ‘Optimising Sporting Performance from Adolescence to Elderly’ will set you up for success. From this course you’ll learn about individual training protocols when working with specific populations, including:

  • The principal of individual differences when training a special population.
  • Resistance training with adolescents and the impact on the growth plates.
  • Training protocols for adolescent resistance training.
  • Long term athlete development (LTAD).
  • Ageing and loss of muscle mass (i.e. sarcopenia).
  • Methods and guidelines for resistance training for the elderly.
  • Resistance training for athletes, including needs analysis, planning and periodisation, overtraining, testing and programming.

With our ageing population, there is a great need for exercise specialists who are trained to work with older adults. If you feel like this special population would be an area you’d like to focus on then the course ‘Functional Ageing and Exercise’ is a great certification to obtain. This course will provide you with the skills to perform functional fitness assessments and create functional exercise programs for a wide variety of older clients. You’ll also explore areas such as:

  • Understanding mature adults.
  • Applied physiology of ageing.
  • Functional ageing and exercise.
  • Health and functional fitness assessment.
  • The functional ageing training model.
  • Individual and small group training strategies and teaching techniques.
  • Safety and monitoring mature clients.
