Competency-Based Training
Australian Fitness Network Pty Ltd. trading as fitnessU (RTO code 90497) operates under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF). fitnessU offers on scope SIS30313 - Certificate III in Fitness, SIS40210 - Certificate IV in Fitness, and is nationally accredited through the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Learner structured training is delivered based on competency standards set by the industry. Qualified staff using strict assessment criteria will assess learner competency in each unit. When a learner can demonstrate competency for the required number of units of competency specified for their course, a full or partial completion is awarded. A Certificate or Testamur will be issued once all course payments have been made in full and once the Learner Engagement Survey is completed.

Learner Identification
To ensure that identity fraud does not occur, all learners will be required to provide photo identification to their online profile on The Hub (learner management system) at commencement of the course as well as photographic identification at the time of the video assessment. Such identification may include a drivers licence, passport or other photograph identification. At the time of the final assessment learners also required to use the same identification that they used at the time of commencement and present this clearly to the video camera prior to the video assessment. The trainer and assessor will validate that the learner being assessed on the video matches the identity documents presented at the time of video and from their online profile at the beginning of the course.

Unique Student Identification (USI)
All learners must register for a USI at time of enrolment. At issuance of certification, fitnessU will verify the learner’s USI for validation. AQF certification documentation cannot be issued to an individual without being in receipt of a verified USI for that individual, unless an exemption applies under the Student Identifiers Act 2014. Where there is an exemption, fitnessU will inform the leaner prior to either the completion of the enrolment or commencement of training and assessment, whichever occurs first, that the results of the training will not be accessible through the Commonwealth and will not appear on any authenticated VET transcript prepared by the Registrar. The security of Student Identifiers and all related documentation under its control, including information stored in its student management systems.

Flexible Learning and Assessment
This is an online course where learners study at their own pace; however, you are required to complete your studies within the designated time frame set by fitnessU. Those timelines are:

  • SIS30313- Certificate III in Fitness must be completed within 6 months of enrolment.
  • SIS40210- Certificate IV in Fitness must be completed within 12 months of enrolment
  • A separate specialisation course to an existing qualification must be completed within 3 months of enrolment.

Issuance of AQF Certification
AQF certification documentation is issued to a learner within 30 calendar days of the learner being assessed if they meet the requirements of the training product, the submission of the certificate request form, have a valid Unique Student Identification (USI), and as well as providing all agreed fees the learner owes to fitnessU have been paid.

Re issuing of Certificates
A re issuing of a formal certificate and statement of attainment will attract a $25 fee and will only be issued once all course payments have been made in full.

Course Entry Requirements

SIS30313 - Certificate III in Fitness: This is an entry-level course. There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

To support a successful study experience, learners are recommended the following; has a personal interest for the fitness and health industry, have access to a commercial fitness centre, ability to attain a recognised Australian First Aid Qualification with CPR, a minimum English Language Proficiency level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, minimum computer literacy standards as determined by fitnessU as well as access to the internet and a personal email account

SIS40210 - Certificate IV in Fitness: Entry to this qualification is open to those who hold the appropriate first aid qualification* deemed current by the training package being awarded and has achieved successful completion of SIS30313- Certificate III in Fitness or and who have achieved the following units of competencies:

SISFFIT302A Provide quality service in the fitness industry
SISFFIT303A Develop and apply an awareness of specific populations to exercise delivery
SISFFIT304A Instruct and monitor fitness programs
SISFFIT305A Apply anatomy and physiology principles in a fitness context
SISFFIT306A Provide healthy eating information to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines
SISFFIT307A Undertake client health assessment
SISFFIT308A Plan and deliver gym programs
SISXOHS101A Follow occupational health and safety policies
SISXRSK301A Undertake risk analysis of activities

 *First aid qualification deemed current by the training package being awarded is required to complete the SIS30313 Certificate III in fitness. This certificate must be delivered by an approved Australian First Aid provider. Please note that fitnessU does not accept First Aid qualifications from overseas. All certificates must be authenticated by original documents (i.e. award and transcript of results) or copies of the original documents being provided which have been either approved by a Justice of the Peace or equivalent authority; or verified as a true and correct copy of the original documents by an authorised representative of fitnessU.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) acknowledges skills and knowledge obtained through previous or current studies and experiences that may be credited to the qualification applied for. These may include formal training, conducted by industry or educational institutions either in Australia or overseas, work experience and life experience. Application forms for RPL are available from the Senior Course Coordinator: and must be forwarded to fitnessU with the appropriate documentation and payment fee of the relevant application prior to course commencement. All RPL application must be processed prior to enrolment for accurate enrolment fees. Official documentation included with your application may need to be verified as a true and accurate copy. An RPL application fee is $300 per qualification. If your RPL application is successful, the $300 will be deducted from your course fees, however, if your RPL claim is not successful, the $300 is not refundable and will be considered as assessment fees for the RPL assessment process.

Credit Transfer
FitnessU provides credit for any studies previously undertaken and completed successfully. Any formal education from other vocational education providers with the same matching (equivalent) units are eligible for credits into a qualification.
Sufficient AQF certification documentation issued by another RTO or AQF authorised issuing organisation, authenticated VET transcripts are required for successful credit into the qualification. There is no charge for this application. Official documentations included with any application may need to be verified as a true and accurate copy.

On commencement of each module, learners are advised about formal assessments tasks that will take place. Formal assessment tasks may include multiple choice questions, short answers, logbooks and practical video submissions. Criteria and guidelines are provided for each assessment. You must be found competent for all assessment activities to complete the course.  Competency training grades consist of either a competent grade or a not yet competent grade. Learners who are deemed not yet competent will be provided with feedback from the assessor to review and resubmit the identified question/s tasks.

Re assessment Fees
Learners will have three attempts to resubmit written assignments within 7 business days to a final result being recorded.  If in the case a learner fails the three attempts, the learner must re-enrol into the module, paying the required fees per unit.
Learners will have one chance to resubmit the video practical assessment within 14 business days for each qualification. After this, any other subsequent resubmissions will incur a reassessment fee of $30. This payment should be made by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form.

Extension Policy
If you are having difficulty meeting due dates, fitnessU may consider granting extensions under certain circumstances. Application for an extension must be made in writing to the fitnessU Education Co-ordinator: by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form. There is a maximum of 3 month extension per qualification.

Deferment/ Hold Policy
If you wish to place your enrolment on hold due to situations that may prevent you from completing your qualification, then you are eligible for deferment up to a maximum of 3 months. Applications for deferment must be made in writing to the fitnessU Education Co-ordinator: by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form found on the fitnessU website. There is a deferment fee of $50.

Transfer Policy
If you wish to transfer your enrolment to another person, then you are eligible to do so. The remaining balance will be transferred to the new learner and new charges will be based on per module units required to complete the full qualification. Applications for the transfer must be made in writing to the fitnessU Education Co-ordinator: by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form found on the fitnessU website. There is a transfer fee of $50.

Extenuating Circumstances
Individual cases of extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case by case merit.
Extenuating circumstances may include but not be limited to:

  • Sickness or death in immediate family.
  • Individual medical circumstance.
A medical certificate or other equivalent documentation must be provided as evidence.  

Re enrolment Fees
Re enrolment fees are charged upon individual modules per qualification. Learners who go past their due dates will need to re-enrol and pay for individual incomplete modules. Application for a re enrolment must be made in writing to the fitnessU Education Coordinator: by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form.

Course Fees
Payment fees options include payment fees in advance or participation in a payment plan via EZYPay. All course fees will be detailed on the enrolment forms and may change due to discounted offers and promotions as per the discretion of fitnessU.  A tax invoice will be sent out once enrolment is confirmed within 30 days. Any additional costs may include: cancellation fees, deferment fees, transfer fees, re-issuing of certificates, re- assessment fees, re enrolment and RPL applications.
For fitnessU PT packages, a $1490 payment is required. At the 6 months mark the next $1490 instalment will be due. At completion at the 12 month mark, the remaining balance of the total course fee will be due. For single courses, a $1490 payment is required. At the 3 month mark the remaining fees will be due. Please see below a sample of the fee structure for the fitnessU PT package.

Cancellations and Refunds for non-FEE HELP courses
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing by using the Enrolment Adjustment Form. Please contact the fitnessU Education Co-ordinator: to request this form. Please note that without any written notification, cancellations cannot be processed. The use of the term ‘course’ refers to any combination of complete certificates or part thereof purchased at any one time. As such, multiple courses purchased together will be treated as a single course for the purposes of cancellation and refund. Learners will be entitled to a full refund if the course arrangement is terminated early or if fitnessU fails to provide the agreed services.

Course fees paid in advance within 30 days: A $500 cancellation fee will be incurred if you wish to cancel within thirty (30) days of fitnessU issuing your course login details. The remaining balance of your course payment will be refunded to your nominated bank account. Upon receipt of your cancellation request, written notification of the outcome will be forwarded to you via the contact details supplied to fitnessU upon enrolment. Please allow up to seven (7) working days for your cancellation request to be processed.
After 30 days has passed from the date of fitnessU issuing your course login details, no refund will be granted for any cancellations.
Course fees paid in instalments within 30 days: A $500 cancellation fee plus the additional cancellation fee specified by EZYPAY will be incurred if you wish to cancel within thirty (30) days of fitnessU issuing your course login details. Your cancellation request will not be processed until such time as the specified cancellation fee has been received by fitnessU. Upon receipt of your cancellation request, written notification of the outcome will be forwarded to you via the contact details supplied to fitnessU upon enrolment. Please allow up to seven (7) working days from this date for your cancellation request to be processed. 
After 30 days has passed from the date of fitnessU issuing your course login details, you will still be bound to fulfil your contractual financial obligations should you wish to cancel. 
If you default beyond four weeks of the instalment plan, your course access and any related services will be suspended until the financial situation has been rectified. fitnessU reserves the right to refer learners who default on three (3) or more occasions to the EC Credit collections agency for collection.


Withdrawal/ Disciplinary Procedures

A learner may be withdrawn/ refused from a enrolment/ program of study if they are found:

  • Partaking in unfair actions as completing work on behalf of other learners
  • Plagiarising another author or another leaner
  • Non- payment of fees
  • Bad history of credit, defaulting more than 3 events within a current or previous course
  • Are abusive, aggressive or insulting towards staff members or other learners
  • Do not comply with the confidentiality rights of other persons
  • Having provided false or misleading information
  • Fail or refused to undertake assessment activities as requried by fitnessU requirements.

    Learners who are found acting outside the Training Providers’ code of conduct (see student handbook) may be disciplined by a member of staff. Any learner who commits a breach of discipline or is deemed as presenting a significant risk to themselves or others may not be able to continue their study with fitnessU.

    Cheating/ Plagiarism
    Cheating means to take an examination or test in a dishonest way, as by improper access to answers. A learner shall not cheat, attempt to cheat, or incite or assist another learner to cheat in any assessment item.  The unauthorised use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work (plagiarising) infringes fitnessU’s rules, breaks criminal law and incurs liabilities at civil law. You must not- copy the work of another learner, directly copy any part of another person’s work or plagiarising another author’s work.

    A learner may be withdrawn from a program of study if they are found:

    • Partaking in unfair actions such as completing work on behalf of other learners
    • Plagiarising another author or another learner
    • Non-payment of fees
    • Are abusive, aggressive, or insulting towards staff members or other learners.
    • Do not comply with the confidentiality rights of other persons
    • Have provided false or misleading information
    • Fail or refuse to undertake assessment activities as required by fitnessU requirements.

    Duty of Care
    fitnessU will adopt a high level of Duty of Care for all learners. The physical welfare of learners will be a priority.  All fitnessU staff and learners will be made aware of their responsibility under relevant legislation and company policy in relation to Duty of Care.  Accident/incident prevention will be a priority during any face to face practical assessments. If you have an accident, please report it to a staff member immediately and complete an incident form found at the training venue.

    Work Health and Safety
    The safety of both staff and learner is of primary concern to us. fitnessU training facilities, including amenities, shall be consistent with high workplace health and safety standards as required by the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. All accidents occurring within fitnessU facilities will be reported and acted upon in accordance with the requirements of the NSW Workers Compensation Act 1987 and NSW Workplace Injury Management and Compensation Act 1998.

    Access and Equality
    fitnessU aims to provide learner with the opportunity to study, learn and develop skills in a safe and supportive educational and social environment. As a learner, you have rights and responsibilities. fitnessU is committed to integrating access and equality principles within all services that we provide to our learners. If you feel you have been discriminated against, speak to your Online Trainer, or to the National VET Manager:

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy Support (LLN)
    Prior to commencement of training, learners identified as having language, literacy and numeracy difficulties that could affect their ability to complete their studies can be provided with access to external specialist services to assist them. These external services are not included with the enrolment fees and carry additional fees for the learner. Learners who require language, literacy or numeracy assistance should indicate this by ticking the special needs component of their Enrolment Form. fitnessU can provide access only to specialist support for learners who have identified themselves with a learning disability. Processes are implemented to identify, counsel and provide access to appropriate assistance for learners with special needs. Assistance will be administered to learners identified with special needs in the form of information, advice, counselling and/or referral to external specialist services/ agencies / counsellors as required. 
    The following processes will be applied for students considered to be “at risk”:

    • Learners who are “at risk” based upon the responses in the enrolment form are to conduct an online LLN Indicator Tool- developed in line with the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). The results will address the ACSF levels 1-3
    • The National VET Manager will assess the result of the learner through a phone call conversation and assess further if required.
    • An outcome will be decided to either approve/ not allow the learner to continue on with  their enrollment or put into place accommodations with the current material and support or recommend external specialists services.

    LLN accommodation (adjustment) in assessment may include:

    • substitution of an written assessment task for a practical one
    • assessment via discussion instead of written
    • provision of extra time
    • use of an interpreter or ‘reader’
    • use of adaptive technology
    • frequent check ups

    Further Learner Support
    All assessments are carried out by either online trainer assessment or Automated and Instant Computer Assessment. Other support mechanisms that are included with enrolment include:

    • The mentoring program in this course are based on workplace practices with an approved Pro- Trainer. These Pro- Trainer will mentor the learner with the practical aspects of the course. There will be 5x 1 hour structured practical sessions within the course.
    • In some modules students are required to complete industry research, sourcing and documenting information about specific aspects of the fitness industry. Learners are encouraged to speak and interact with industry practitioners as part of their self-directed learning, with pro-active contact with fitness facilities in their area required.  A learner’s Pro- Trainer can assist with these activities. If in the case the learner does not wish to have a Pro- Trainer, the above activities is self-directed.
    • The Online Trainer and assessors, as well as the Senior course coordinator is responsible for providing students with learner support and assistance throughout the course via email or telephone. Learners can expect both proactive and reactive contact with Online Trainer and assessors in the form of weekly site news posts, Facebook forums, detailed assessment feedback, phone calls and responses to email enquiries. These available support tools provide a support system for all learners by reinforcing the role of the Online Trainer and assessor and encouraging regular contact.
    • Learner emails, questions and enquiries are returned within two (2) business days to ensure that studies are not impeded.
    • ‘Site news’ posts are made on a weekly basis with information, reminders, notifications and study tips posted onto the Moodle site for all students.
    • Facebook forums posts are made daily, enforcing learning interaction and engagement via weekly focus tips of content, assessments and Q&A.


    Quality Assurance and Improvement

    fitnessU will adopt and maintain a quality assurance system for managing and monitoring all education and training operations and for reviewing client and staff satisfaction. To enable us to continually improve our course content and delivery, we request that learners, stakeholders and Pro- Trainers complete a course evaluation at the end of the course. This information is kept confidential.
